An attorney acquaintance asked,
I’m thinking of building a simple landing page with a product and options and copy. But how do I market it? Is this better suited to SEO? AdWords? Facebook advertising? … If you have book recommendations that are still valid I’m open to ’em…
Here’s my advice, based on my 10+ years’ experience running my sites which all depend on good SEO:
- Where are your customers? That answer will guide you. Mine are searching for answers online. So I don’t buy ads. But I read everything Google publishes about SEO and their understanding of good practices. For example, their Documentation to Improve SEO and Webmaster Guidelines.
- Register your site with the Google Search Console. Fix all the errors it finds. Let it teach you SEO. https://search.google.com/search-console/about
- Register your site with the Bing Webmaster Tools. It’ll find different yet valid things to fix. https://www.bing.com/webmasters/about
- Monitor your site’s speed. Google ranks faster sites higher. Set yourself the goal of getting an A for each type of page you have. https://gtmetrix.com/. Or use Google’s own site for manual speed checks. It won’t periodically monitor pages, but it gives great feedback.
